Hello and welcome to the “Plane” page on the SES webpage. My name is Bob Dane and I love airplanes and everything about airplanes. Have been a member of AMA for thirty-five years and a relatively new member of Southern Eagles Squadron. I’m a FAA licensed private pilot with an instrument rating, did most of my training in a high wing trainer and have considerable experience flying “right seat” in a twin beach very much like the one we see advertised by Horizon Hobby today.
The difference in the two planes mentioned above is huge considering training, size, high wing vs low wing, weight, speed, number of engines, electronics, how they’re built, and general capabilities, and of course cost to operate. In buying and flying a model aircraft all these factors are considered whether it be conscious or sub-conscious. These are all considerations new and old pilots alike make every time we get the itch for a new plane and it’s the subject matter I’d like to cover on this page with discussion threads on most every subject.
Hopefully this page will be of benefit to new and old airmen alike, I want to talk about the love of flying model airplanes, how and why we choose the planes we do and for the new pilots the best planes you can buy to insure your continuation into the hobby with success instead of disappointment. There’s a lot to know about this hobby and getting started with the basics is very important.
